Dear Blizzard: Regarding Matchmaking
Qhira is a melee Assassin. Her abilities required some extra work and tech to work well, but the end result is a hero who rewards patience and has the potential to make big plays.
Today, we’d like to take a look at some of the matchmaking adjustments we’ve made since BlizzCon , as well as the impact those changes.
Having to account for 5v5 play, as well as the variety of roles a player can fill in Heroes posed a whole new set of challenges for us in terms of matchmaking. Arranged teams, or a group of players who enter matchmaking as a full party, are often able to better coordinate, communicate, and execute strategies than opposing random teams, which are teams made up of individual players grouped together via matchmaking. Though random teams can and do win against arranged teams, our win percentage data shows that arranged teams generally have a slight advantage over their random counterparts.
We feel that better games generally come from matching arranged teams with one another, and random teams with other random teams, and the Heroes matchmaker actually prefers to create games this way. As the pool of invited Heroes testers is increased, these situations will occur less often. Eventually, the matchmaker will be able to consistently match arranged teams against other arranged teams and random teams against other random teams. In order to make this process as seamless as possible, the Heroes client first determines your round-trip latency a.
Next, your ping information is used in combination with your individual skill rating to find and match you with other players of similar skill who also connect to your server. Making server selection automatic in this way allows us to easily add new game servers in the future, which will continue to improve responsiveness for players around the globe. Keep in mind, though, that those situations should become less frequent as we continue to make improvements and invite additional testers from each region to play Heroes.

As in most online multiplayer games, the matchmaking queues are necessary for the game to find enemies for you to fight and teammates to fight by your side. A battle also needs to be populated enough, and with the right kind of Soldiers, before it can start. To reduce your waiting time, try using fewer restrictions in the macthmaking filters i.
Staged Battles are balanced, one-off matches which are happening outside of the Strategy Game. They follow pre-determined scenarios and new ones are constantly generated by the servers based on the number of players who request to join them. Expensive, top-level vehicles like heavy tanks are more common in Staged Battles, because they are only limited by the server settings.
War missions, on the other hand, are determined by the strategic decisions made by Generals. That is to say, heavy tanks will only be available in a battle if somebody deployed them on the Campaign Map. War missions will usually have a longer queue time in matchmaking, because there is a limited number of them.
If you want to play War battles only, the queue times for heavy tanks will vary depending on different factors such as the number of players in your faction, your time zone, and of course the War Economy in general i.
How can I reduce the waiting time when matchmaking?
Matchmaking Rating also known as “MMR” is a number calculated for each player to match them with players of similar skill. The intent behind MMR is to match players by skill. This is accomplished by comparing an assigned number MMR that adjusts based on the relative MMR of the opponents players win or lose to. Matching players by their effectiveness or performance helps make sure that less experienced players aren’t always playing against expert players, and that competitors at all levels are earning their victories by battling players of roughly equivalent ability.

Blizzards Efforts to Fix Heroes of the Storm Matchmaking
Since the beginning of the last season, many MOBA Heroes of the Storm players have had big problems with matchmaking and standings. These have been corrected by patches that have in turn caused problems, for which Blizzard apologizes. And not to stay on simple words, Blizzard announces that anyone who has played a Heroic or Team League game between the start of the season and January 31 will receive a free Legendary Booty Chest, distributed in the days that are coming.
Finally, the editor apologizes again, for his radio silence concerning these problems:.
By Stan , March 7, in News. Heroes developers answered your questions about ranked, matchmaking, and balance yesterday and here’s a summary of everything we’ve learned. Our feature team has been working crazy-hard to get the new combined Ranked mode stood up and ready to launch. I am extremely excited to say that the framework for it will be coming in our next major patch. That said, we have a lot more work to do in order to polish and get all of the additional features complete, so the first glimpse of this new League will come in as a Preseason, followed closely by the full roll-out soon after.
From here, we should have an accurate starting place for players to begin competing in the new Ranked Experience. For players that have never played any Ranked mode before, we will be using a skill estimate based on information we have about those players from other modes if we have it but it will also be clamped to a specific maximum division equivalent. Its been said “the framework” for the new ranked exeperience will come this next patch.
Can you confirm after Season 2 finishes in a few weeks will we go ahead and enter the preseason for the new combined ranked experience later this month? The new combined Ranked Mode will come with the season roll in a few weeks? Do you have any plans on making it so we can only queue with players that are within our division? I have answered a very similar question here , which I hope covers your concerns. Are you looking at altering the XP changes at all? What are the highest priorities for the game right now?
Heroes Of The Storm Matchmaking Makover Has Arrived On the PTR
Matchmaking Rating also known as “MMR” is a behind-the-scenes number calculated for each player to match them with players of similar skill. In order for the matchmaker to place similarly skilled players together, it assigns everyone a matchmaking rating that indicates how skilled the system thinks the player is. The players Matchmaking Rating is only used for matchmaking. Your rank is supposed to express your MMR, but it moves faster after wins and losses.
The intent behind MMR is to match players by skill.

If you are into MOBA games than you probably know the worth of quality matchmaking and how important it is for the success of the game. However, this was not the same for Heroes of the Storm that with the recent patch had removed the entire rankings and players had to play atleast 20 ranked matches before they could get their MMR back. The number of matches is high in Heroes of the Storm making it tougher for players since ranked match making in League of Legends and Dota 2 only require players to play 10 matches to calibrate their MMR.
For StarCraft the matchmaking system only requires 5 matches to be played. In the case of Heroes of the Storm, players are required to play at least 20 matches which according to Blizzard is a more accurate way to test and calibrate player ranks. The system stills keeps track of the previous MMR hidden that you had and placement matches are queued through those ranks.
However, due to an outcry from top ranked players the bonus points are now being added back so that top players can gain their top ranks like they had in the past. The low to mid rank players have not been left alone and Blizzard promises that further improvements will help the lower ranks players rankings as well.
